
The Civil Marriage Process in The Gambia
To register a civil marriage, the following process is to be followed:

A completed Civil Marriage Form MUST be submitted at least TWO (2) WEEKS before the proposed marriage date;

The completed form should be accompanied by:

Photocopies of passports of intending spouse (or I.D. Card(s) if Gambian Citizens);

One passport size photograph of each applicant;

Bachelor/Spinster Certificate, Divorce Certificate (where either party is a divorcee) or Death Certificate of former spouse (where either party is a widow or widower).
Note:

Civil Marriages are conducted in the mornings from 9.00a.m - 10.00 a.m. except otherwise determined by the Registrar of Marriages.

Parties with confirmed marriage dates MUST come for swearing-in and payment of requisite marriage fees is expected at least 24hrs before the date of marriage.

On the day of the Marriage, parties MUST NOT be accompanied by more than FIVE people (including the photographer) into the premises of the Marriages Registry.

Parties MUST NOT be accompanied by DRUMMERS and SIRENS.

Where a divorce/death certificate is in a language other than English, a certified translation of the document must be provided.

Marriage fees are as follows:
Where both parties are either citizens of The Gambia or a citizen of ECOWAS - D7,000
Where one party is either a citizen of The Gambia or a citizen of ECOWAS and the other party is neither a Gambian nor a citizen of ECOWAS - D15,500
Where both parties are neither citizens of The Gambia nor citizens of ECOWAS - D20,500
