Why get married in the Gambia?

Aside from the picturesque beaches and abundance of natural beauty which can create the perfect backdrop for your tropical wedding, there is another significant factor which is the cost difference between the price of a UK/US wedding averaging at around £18,000-£20,000 - depending on the size and requirements, we can help you create an unforgettable event for a quarter of the price.

What do you need to get married in the Gambia?

To get married in The Gambia, you need to submit your marriage form together with the supporting documentation at least two weeks before the intended wedding date. The required documents are as follows:

  • illed out marriage form, which needs to be paid for in Ministry of Justice in Banjul

  • Passport copies

  • Bachelor/Spinster certificate for Gambian Citizens

  • Divorce/Death certificate (where required)

  • Passport size photos

In order to secure the wedding date, we recommend submitting the form as soon as possible and are able to do this on your behalf. More information about the process can be found HERE.

Can foreigners get married in the Gambia?

Yes, foreigners can get married in the Gambia provided they submit all required paperwork and if the documents are not in English, those would need to be officially translated. The UK accepts Gambian Certificates provided they are stamped by Ministry of Foreign Affairs afterwards. For other countries, I recommend checking the government websites for guidance on registering marriages in chosen countries, as Gambia is not a part of the Hague Convention therefore an Apostille cannot be added to the document.

What is the cost of the marriage certificate?

The marriage certificate is included in the marriage fee and an additional certified copy is at the cost of 3,500GMD.
